No flat rate — why the costs vary
Towing is not a standard service. Every job is different: sometimes it’s 5 kilometres to the nearest garage, sometimes 30 kilometres home. Sometimes the vehicle is out in the open, sometimes in a tight underground car park. Sometimes roadside assistance is enough, sometimes an all-wheel-drive vehicle has to be loaded onto the flatbed.
That’s why there is no flat rate. Anyone who quotes you a fixed price on the phone without knowing what’s going on is either lying or padding the figure generously.
What affects the price
Distance: the further we have to drive, the more expensive it gets. Logical.
Vehicle type: a small car is easier to handle than an SUV or an all-wheel-drive vehicle that has to go fully onto the flatbed.
Accessibility: is the vehicle freely accessible on the street or in an underground car park where we can barely manoeuvre?
Time of day: at night and on public holidays we work at different rates than during the day on weekdays. That’s the same in every industry.
Effort involved: is it enough to load the vehicle, or does it first have to be recovered (ditch, snow, mud)?
Insurance and towing
If you have comprehensive cover and are at fault for the breakdown yourself (e.g. wrong fuel), the comprehensive policy often covers the towing costs.
If someone else is at fault (an accident), their third-party liability insurance pays.
If you have a breakdown cover letter or a mobility guarantee, towing costs are usually covered — but only as far as the nearest garage, not all the way home.
If you pay yourself: you get an invoice that you can submit to your insurer. Whether they pay depends on your contract.
Why we can’t quote fixed prices
We could tell you: “towing costs 200 euros” — and then find on the spot that your vehicle is in an underground car park we can’t reach with the big truck. Then it gets more expensive and you’re annoyed.
Or we say “200 euros” even though it’s only 5 kilometres and we’re done in 20 minutes. Then you pay too much and we feel bad.
That’s why we do it differently: you call, describe the situation, and we tell you roughly in advance what to expect. No surprises.
What you should know in advance
Call us before you hire us. We’ll work out what it costs. If that’s too much for you, you don’t have to hire us. No hassle, no drama.
Keep the invoice. Even if you pay yourself, you can submit it to your insurer later.
If you have a breakdown cover letter, tell us in advance. Then we’ll settle directly with your insurer.
